Newbie trying to install Slakware Linux

I have slakware linux version 7.0 on CD and have had major problems installing it. I previously got it up and running for a short period but every recent attempt it doesn't seem to configure properly, and has problems installing.
I also have windows running in another partition, but there's still 2 gbyte space for the linux partition(500m /,64 swap,1.6g /home). I've tried to start from scratch, repartitioming hd, mounting and reinstalling, and configuring, but no luck.
It comes up with the hostname Darkstar, if that means anything, and once logged in setup, pkgtool, superprobe, don't work. The CD came with the book "Slakware Linux for Dummies" but this provides no answers. What can I do?

Scrap it and use Mandrake till you're more familiar with Linux 🙂

Here's what you can do. Go to www.linuxnewbie.org Great place for newbie questions and "Newbieized" help files.

What kind of setup are you trying to get to work? There's Linuxconf, XF86Setup, etc. Also, if you're not logged in as root you probably won't get to execute much anyway. I'm not familiar with pkgtool and superprobe, sorry.

try the install again except use / 2G and /swap 64M and if your not comfortable with Slak yet choose the install everything option.
