I am going to be building a computer for the first time this year. I am leaning towards going with a Thunderbird 1.2 Athlon processor or higher, and possibly one of the newer motherboards that supports DDR memory. I am trying to decide on a case...I notice that most of you seem to lean toward the Antec SX1030. I looked at the one at Onvia, but think I'd prefer the Beige one that I have seen at Outpost (SX1030 SOHO...this is the same one that is on Onvia, just beige, right?).

Will this be a good case for what I have in mind? I will be keeping it on top of a desk (a rather large desk), and plan to add a dvd drive, a plexwriter, a zip drive, a 40 gb hard-drive, and a floppy drive.
Will I be "overdoing" it with this case, or is this gonna be a great case I can use throughout the years for upgrading? Any other cheaper alternatives? Is it an inconvenience to have to open the door each time you swap a disk? Anything you guys can tell me about this case, or other cases I might should consider, would be appreciated.

hey if you do go with the sx1030, go to the hot deals forum...there is a special at emscomputing on this case for 82 dollars. Thats cheaper than everywhere else, from what I understand.

With 3 5.25" devices (dvd, cd-rw, zip), 1 5.3" disk, 1 3.5" HDD, an sx830 should be enough I believe. But you might want the SX1030 just in case you want another device or a RAID setup.

if you want to play a little less get the antec KS-188. i hadnt even heard of that till i went hunting for full tower case. in my opinion its better than the 1030 and it has more bay too (both internal and external). the criteria i was looking for was 5 external 5.25's and this case had 6. the only problems that i can think of with this case is that it doesnt have room for a fan where i need one(beneath the power supply) but it still has room for 3 fans. look this up before you get the 1030 'cause its cheaper :)

Thanks for the advice everyone! I went ahead and ordered the SX1030 Beige from Outpost.com last night. It was $99 there, and I added 30 blank 80 min cdr's with cases, for a grand total of $114.00. Overnight shipping was free if the order was over $100, (which included Saturday delivery!!!). So, I am now awaiting the order to be delivered today, and it is out for delivery now :)

I feel like this was a pretty good deal, and am anxious to check out the case.

Now, where would be the best place to look for an internal 3.5 floppy drive and/or zip drive (good prices, coupon deal, etc)? I'm trying to start piecing it together slowly now that I've finally decided on the case.

Thanks again to all for their help.

Now that the case is ordered, save your money until you figure out the rest of what you want. Try to order it all from the same place while using a dollars off or free shipping coupon or deal. Price isn't everything, shipping can kill you...
