Newbie seeking socket 939 cpu

hello

my current cpu is an Athon 3200+ Socket 939. wanted to upgrade to dual-core.
939 cpu is no longer available for purchase where i live (hong kong).

is there any places where one can get them online still? i see some on ebay but they are mostly used and is afraid that i may get a broken chip off ebay.

preferrably a 89w x2 4400+ (ADV4400Daa6CD)
or 89w x2 4200/3800+

939 dual cores are all sold out in HK. only Opteron 170s are still available 🙁
been researching a bit on 939 dual cores, i sort of want a 4400+ 89w cpu.

core 2 duo is quite cheap here 😛 about 170us for e6300. but in order for me to go c2d i have to change my board and rams as well. >_<;

Only reason to go with the 4400+ is to run stock with the 11x multiplier.

yes i never overclock, dunno how neither ^^;

is it true that amd cpu seldom dies? so its quite safe to buy used amd cpu? i saw one on ebay right now and its closing soon, current bid is 207us >_<; is it overpriced?

Check these listings for Socket 939 Athlons on pricewatch.com.

I can't speak for all the vendors, but you may be able to find a reliable dealer who will ship to HK. 🙂

also on ebay i often see cpu pictures with the name "Wesley Wong" from different sellers. is wesley wong some online vendor for used cpus?

Sorry. That was the best resource I could think of to find your CPU. At least, you know they're still available if you can find someone to ship it to you.

If you can't find a vendor to ship it to you, directly, you may have to get a U.S. based friend to buy it and ship it to you.

Correct. If you have the time to tweek more performance out of your system, then read up on overclocking the Athlon64 in this forum.

Can't comment on the price: that's all down to supply & demand (shortage of s939 processors & your/others need to buy them). It's certainly true that modern processors are very hardy, and it's very rare to get a dud (DOA or below-par) new or used.

You might also check the For Sale forum on this site... Find what you are looking for from someone with a good reputation, and explain your situation and that you would pay for the extra shipping and you should be fine. You will probably have to pay upfront since you aren't really established here, but you should be fine.

I would buy from here before I went through Fleabay....

ETA: you could also post a WTB or Want to Buy ad there as well if you don't find what you are looking for.
