Newbie SATA question.

A new rig of mine (Dell) GX270 has a SATA option in bios. Does the computer have to come with a SATA hard drive? Is SATA just a faster hard drive or something? I'm an idiot when it comes to this RAID / SATA stuff.

What is that bios option specificly, enable/disable? Most computers today come with PATA and SATA connections, and either can be used. My guess is that PATA will be around for at least 3 more years. SATA isn't any faster at the moment, but hopefully will be in a couple of years. Peace.

Above is a link to tell you more. SATA offers faster transfer rate. Yes you need a SATA drive. I have the WD Raptor, much faster than regular ATA. of course... the raptor is 10,000rpm.
