If someone here could at least respond I'd appreciate it a lot. I have posted twice and still no reponse from anyone and with all the knowledge here I feel that someone could maybe have an idea or thought that may help. So, here goes one more time.

I purchased two 1GB GSKILL modules for my system which requires DDR400 PC3200
184 pin memory modules. Upon getting them I installed them and the computer will not boot. Power comes on, CPU cooling fan works and that's all. I moved the modules to different slots (only have 2), tried one at the time, then both, nothing. I then put the old 512kb modules back in and it worked fine. So, I went back again and put in one of the old ones and one of the new ones. Nothing...Won't boot.

If anyone has any idea what may be going on here I'd really like to hear it. If you have an idea and need more info or data about my system, just ask. Thanks in advance.

No one is responding because you need to provide the spec. for your system.

Possible problems:

1. your memory sticks are DOA
2. incompatible w/ your motherboard (may or may not be fixed w/ bios update)

I suspect that the memory type you've bought is not compatible w/ your motherboard (only 2 slots?). Check the manual for the maximum memory size & check the motherboard mfg. website for any bios update that may fix this problem.

Thanks for the reply. I took the modules to one of the local computer repair shops yesterday and they checked them on another system and they worked fine. Not DOA. My system is a HP Pavilion a450n with an ASUS P4SD-LA board (Oxford version, Rev. 3.28, 9-02-2004, which is the latest update.) The board only has two slots and the maximum memory capacity is 2GB. I have emailed with HP and the person that I talked with assured (?) me that the sticks would work. As long as they are 184pin, PC3200, DDDR400 they would work, he said.
When I updated my BIOS I did not see any selection options on the utility to change any of the settings for the voltage or any of that stuff. I don't know enough about the detailed stuff here to do it anyhow but I'm trying to learn. I've talked with several local folks who I highly respect as far as their computer knowledge and the feedback from all of them is that the modules should work. If there is any kind of adjustment to BIOS that can be done, and someone can tell me how to do it I'll get on right now. Or, is there any other kind of thing that could make the new modules incompatible with the board that I'm not picking up on. Hope this is not too confusing, but this is why I did not post all this stuff to beging with...I don't really know enough about the intricancies of this stuff to give an intelligent statement as to what the problem really could be. But, I try.
