Newbie RC5 Question....

I am new to this but have two SMP systems at home doing just about nothing right now. How do you properly utilize both processors under W2K for RC5 work? Can I run two instances of the program and set the processor affinity for one processor to each instance?

Thanks...

From the FAQ:

How can I get the client to use all of the CPUs in an SMP system?

Most clients can take advantage of multiple processors, and those that do, will by default run with as many threads as there are processors.

The clients that cannot take advantage of multiple processors even when the OS supports it, do so because of library or compatibility issues. Clients that fall in this category are HP/UX, SunOS 3, and Linux/S390. Under such circumstances, run one instance of the client per processor.

Under Windows 2000, the dnet client will automatically recognize that you have two processors and will give one work unit to each processor. Thus you only need to start one instance of the client.

Welcome to the TeAm! 😀 Be sure to ask here if you have any questions (how to join Team Anandtech, how to flush through the Team proxy, etc.). 🙂

BTW, didn't I just read a couple of your posts over the in the Motherboards Forum (or maybe it was General Hardware)? Your name seems familiar. Welcome!

Welcome to the Team, and let us know if there's anything we can help with! 🙂 I see one of your system rigs is named "RC5 box"... that's the spirit! 😀

Thanks for the replies. I have had everything running fine since yesterday afternoon on one dual system. I will bring up the other systems once I get my password. Thanks once again!

AppleTalking,

I usually post in the video and motherboard sections now.
