Newbie questions about timing?

Dear Experts

I'm kinda newbie to this overclocking world. Currently I'm using xp 1600+ to 1750 mhz(2100+) with 166*10.5 setting.
My spec is
xp 1600+
epox 8kha+
768 MB crucial 2100
Windows XP Pro rev1

I usually read postings here and admire what you guys have done. One thing I couldn't understand is the timing. I searched in the forum about the explanation of timing but couldn't find one. Would you kindly direct me where I can find the specification of timing such as 2-2-2?

Second thing is that I'm considering buying another cheap set.
Here is what I'm thinking.
Barton 2500+
Kingston pc 2700.
Asus board or anything at newegg refurbished section.

My biggest concern is that whether I can overclocking Barton 2500+ to 3200+ using PC2700 ram. I do only the number crunching. Not the game nor anything else. I have an Antec case at home which has 300w power supply. Is it enough for the new barton system? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

JJET.

ok with pc2700 you should be able to oc some but you won't be able to do synch mode on the ram very easily. especially considering you only have a 300w psu. you will have to do some overvolting in the ram and cpu to get the most out of the systme and i just don't know if the psu will be able to handle it.

and as for timings. they are complex. crucial generally blows so good luck doing anything better than 2.5,3,3,6 if you are that lucky. i would guess that to get the oc out of them to run them in synch with the fsb you will have to back them off to 2.5,4,3,7 or even 3,4,3,8 if it is real crapassed ram.

Thanks for the posts. What I'm really curious is what does each 2-2-2-6, for example, stand for? Does the first 2 stand for the cycle length timing? What about the remaining?
Thanks.
