I have an athlon 1.4ghz 266fsb w/ an SK6 heatsink and an 80mm fan. What should my non OC temperatures look like?

I'd like to get this running at 1.5ghz. If I do, what sortof cpu temps should I expect?

Sorry for the rediculous newbie questions, but this is my first attempt at overclocking.

W/o ur ambient temp & case temp...its really hard to say at wht temp is acceptable. Generally for a case temp of 40C, the norms temp using sk-6 would be around 50C & 52-55C for an O/ced system at 1.5 Ghz.

My case temp is 30C, not overclocked.

The cpu is currently running at 34C, not overclocked.

I'm in that same ballpark (80F for the case and 96-100F for CPU). It can jump into the 110's if I'm really plugging the CPU.

Will I have to reapply the silver artic II paste if I remove the heatsink to unlock the cpu for overclocking? Does only graphite pencils work? I could only find pencils with hi-polymer lead.

chances are you don't even have to unlock the sucker. most tbirds that were produced after the introduction of the 1.2ghz is going to be factory unlocked. try o/cing first, and if it doesn't work (which i highly doubt) then go ahead and connect those L1 bridges. I dunno what pencil to use, because i never needed to unlock mine...and btw your temps look pretty good to me. i don't think you're doing anything wrong with the hsf application.

I believe tht idle temp right? Good temp.

On tht unlocking thing...go into the bios & change ur multiplier to 0.5 exp from 9.0 to 9.5. Save it & reboot. If the CPU show an increase clock speed...ur CPU is unlock.
