ok i have very little knowledge of networking and i would like to share a cable connection with two computers. one computer is running win2k and the other is running winxp. i have a linksys router and a nic in each computer. how would i set this up? does one computer need to be host and the other a client? do i connect my cable connection to the router or a host computer? someone told me i need two nics in each computer? why is this? oh and what is the difference between a router and a hub? thanks for the info!

Which router do you have?? if it is a 4 port all you have to do is clone the MAC address of the machine that they registered the mac address of when you got connected. Set the machines to DHCP - never dial a connection - connect through my lan. plug with a straight thru cat 5 cable from the router to each machine and you are on your way

if you want to share files, i belive you do. That's how I set up my XP Pro and XP Home machines...
