Newbie Question: How do I put the HSF on my CPU?

I got a 1ghz tb and a FOP32-1. How the heck do I put this thing on? It has a latch on each side and one of the latches has another hinge hanging off of it. Where do I latch? How hard does it have to be pressed against the cpu core? Do I have to prebend the latches so I don't crack my core? I've never done this so any info is helpful!

With the HSF not on the CPU, flex the latches, maybe even bend them just a tiny bit to loosen them up, if possible - but not too much, of course. Then, with the motherboard removed from the case, place the HSF on top of the CPU that is in the socket, and hook one of the latches on the tab on the side of the socket. Then, using a small needle-nosed pliers or similar tool, firmly grasp the other latch and push it down until it hooks on the tab on the other side. Look at the HSF/socket/CPU juncture from the side to be sure the HSF is flat against the CPU. That's it.

Maybe check this article by JonnyGURU before you start. Jonny is installing a Golden Orb, but the principle is about the same.

as Ulysses mentioned, preflex the thing a few times first..

TAKE YOUR TIME doing this and just be as cautious as you can.. I just did the FOP38 on mine.. Latch on the solid side first, leaving the movable latch side for last, then use something (I used a flatblade screwdriver) to push down on the solid part of the 2nd end (leaving the moving part free to move still) then while applying pressure to the part the screwdriver is on, coax the latch over the plastic bit and you're home free..
