i am looking at the different types of memory and was just wondering what the 4 numbers mean. the numbers i am talking about are the ones associated with latency (x-x-x-x). lurking in the forums i can tell that 2-2-2-x is desirable. what is the 4th number? thx.

It has to do with write and read latencies. Lower numbers speed up transfers and access times, while higher numbers reduce performance. Basically buy the lowest you can afford :)

The fourth number is generally the tRAS value. Many times a fifth number, the command rate, is also listed. All values are in clock cycles. Look HERE for more information than a newbie ever probably wanted to know about memory.
