Newbie question about memory

Okay, I have decided on everything I need for my new PC, except for memory.

I see Infineon 512 DDR 3200 memory for 89.99 (Canadian), and then I see Cosair XMS whatever memory for 2x the price of Infineon.
I know that OCZ, Kingston, Cosair are premium brands, but if I am not overclocking, would I get the SAME performance from either?

And WTH are timings, 3-4-4-8????

I know there are many of you out far more knowledgeable than me, so please enlighten me!!!!

well you wont get the SAME performance from infeneon as oppsed to corsair. if you are not overclocking and plan on running them both at stock speeds and you dont game much, you wont tell a difference. corair's quality tends to be much higher than infeneon and the tighter timings with the corsair help with future upgrades more than with the infineon ram. bottom line, you get what you pay for.

I do plan on gaming, just not overclocking. But you say there will be a performance loss.

What would you suggest I get.

If you plan on gaming I definitely suggest getting some good RAM, Corsair is great...I have it in both of my systems. But if Corsair is too much, I think Kingston HyperX is little cheaper like 10-20 bucks per DIMM...and that is still very good quality RAM.

Well, if I want a good gaming system, I guess I should get GOOD stuff.

Can anyone explain how timings work.

Generally better ram is recommended for stability or you may have issues.
It's a good and safe bet to buy the Ram suggested above.
