newbie question about fans

I just built my 1st computer and the fans attached to the case are really, really loud. These are the small ones attached to the side and top of the case. Do I need these fans on? If I do, are there quieter ones I can replace them with?

Assuming you have at least one each of rear and front fans, no, you don't need those others on. Also, there are quieter ones you can replace with, such as Panaflo, Papst, or Vantec Stealths. You might want to look into getting a fan controller if noise is important to you - SuperFlower Fan Master is my recommendation there.

i bought 4 of these and at full rpm their aren't anywhere near as loud as any of those cheap crap case fans

Screw those get some panaflo's. Those are the best fans out there.

Ditto....
I had 6 of those Enermax fans in my case at one time.
Panaflo H1A has the same airflow with about half the noise. L1A is pretty quiet.
