I'm flying tomorrow and I did the check-in thing from my phone. There is no bar/QR code on anything I've received from the airline (United). I don't have the United app nor a burning desire to install it. Without the app, am I going to be printing the boarding passes from the kiosks or does United send bar/QR codes eventually?

you should have selected the email option when checking in. app is a default.

You may be able to get a PDF/email by just going to the website and pulling up your flight info, even after you've checked in. If not, just stop at the kiosk and get one printed.

You can just check in again and select a different delivery option. Often there are automated kiosks at the airport and you'd just need your name and 6 character confirmation code to get a hard copy

So United thought it would be a good idea to have the large print on their kiosks to read, “Scan boarding pass to begin”. Naturally, there is a long line of people waiting to talk to a human being to get their boarding passes. One has to read the fine print to see that one can do the needful by entering the confirmation number. Anyway, the airport is lovely as ever.

People are really bad at three dimensional geometry and size relationships.

lady next to me on my flight last week had giant roller, a small "service" dog (BS) a giant coat with stuff in the pockets, a backpack and a purse for carry on. I really wish the gate agent would actually do their job. she was in the seat next to me but it was the wrong seat. she was F and the seat was A.

airports make we weep for humanity.

Once again I’m reminded of the utter contempt that domestic airlines in the US have for their customers. Sitting on the tarmac for 75 minutes and counting because the airline didn’t staff appropriately.
