newbie question about aa and af on graphics cards

everyone take their cheap shots now, but what does aa and af mean when referred to graphics cards

AA is Anisotropic Filtering, it basically gets rid of the jagged edges on polygons in a 3D scene. I'm probably wrong, but Anisotropic Filtering (AF) sharpens graphic detail (not 100% sure on this one). They both do make a HUGE difference in image quality.

so if i turn aa/af on it could slow the game down depending on the graphics card

not depending on the graphics card, but it'll slow down all graphics cards.

It will slow down all graphics cards, but depending on the card, the amount of slow down will change


with a Radeon 9800 pro, you can crank that AA/AF up all the way and still get good framerates

with a ti4200 you can turn it on, and then watch a slideshow :p
