Howdy, I recently set up my MSI Turbo - R. Formatted my drives for 32kb clusters, on the bigger is better scheme. But that's not the Q here, that's been covered already.

On the BIOS for the Promise controller (The ASUS RAID board has the same one), <ctrl>+F to get into it...

1) Has settings - AV editing, Server, Desktop. I went with the AV one, I mostly do Gaming, MP3's, web browsing. Does any one have performance data or details between the three? I checked MSI site, and searched here. Looking for the Promise site but haven't found. Anyone know the real differences?

2) Block size for the RAID. I'm familiar witht he Abit Highpoint - you just click on 8,16,32, or 64. Did not see it on the Promise. Is it there? How do I get it? Or is that what the above settings do?

3) If I play with it - changing those settings to run benchmarks and what not, can I just change them and reboot? Not redoing the RAID or anything, just switching only from say AV Editing to Server. Will I still kill the data on the drives, or can I make these experiments without worry? Anyone done it yet?

Thanks! I've been searching and can not find it...

"Allows the user to choose the type of PC usage that will be performed in order to optimize how FastTrak100 handles data blocks to enhance performance. Your choice will determine the block size used. You may choose from: A/V Editing (for audio/video applications, or any similar application that requires large file transfers), Server (for numerous small file transfers), or Desktop (a combination of large and small file sizes)."

I found it, just in case anyone was interested and just didn't know the answer... Looks like 64, 16, and 32 kb block sizes. I picked 64 off the bat, right where I wanted it, so I guess I'll leave it.
