Newbie overclocker needs P4 advice?

I've never overclocked anything before, but I figured I'd give it a shot with my new computer. I was going to get a 2.2GHz and run it stock but now I'm not sure. If anyone could bear with me and answer a few questions I would appreciate it.

Ok, I want to run at least a 133FSB with RDRAM. I'm not sure between a P4T-E or TH7-II. The TH7-II may be better, but it has that bios updating issue. Also, what options are there to make sure that my AGP and PCI frequencies stay roughly in spec? This is probably the one thing that I am not very familiar with.

Hardware:
P4 1.6a or 1.8A? Will a 1.8A run at 2.4GHz(133FSB)?
P4T-E or TH7-II? I'm sure I'll get varying opinions, but that's ok.
RDRAM? Samsung or Corsair?

Thanks for any help!

From reading around the forums, it seems 1.6's are almost guaranteed to hit 133fsb, while 1.8's are not. I couldn't tell you the success ratio of 1.8's hitting 133fsb, but I know I read many more no-go reports then for 1.6's

I don't know anything about the p4t-e, but I personally have the th7-II. My board came with the newest bios, so I didn't have the "unable to flash" bios problem. The TH7-II is able to lock the agp/pci bus at 66/33 for any speed (100-255). It also has Rdram multipliers so your ram should never be holding your cpu back. One thing I have noticed, is the voltages are all much lower then spec on this board. 1.625 is the most (without modifying) that you can run your cpu at, and that only raises my voltage up to 1.58 at the high mark (it fluctuates between 1.56 and 1.58). I don't know if my psu is going out or I have a faulty board. Either way that will inevitably hinder my overclock.

Samsung Rdram seems to be the memory of choice, and it looks like 16 device (double sided) is the way to go. There seems to more success stories of ppl hitting 133fsb with double sided modules then single sided. I am trying to find more info out on this myself.

I wish I had both the asus and abit boards to compare and decide which to keep. Hope some of this was useful to ya.

Thanks Lastig21. If the bios update problem with the TH7-II is being corrected I'll probably go for that board since I don't think the P4T-E has multiplier locks at 33/66.

If anyone else has opinions on which specific RDRAM modules to get please share them.
