Is there a better surface to run an optical mouse on? I have heard lighter colors vs. darker colors, and no mouse pads with lots and lots of colors....

any thoughts?????

I can use my mouse on just my oak wood desk or my plain black mouse pad. I'm guessing a clear pad would not work as well but it would just depend what kind of desk was under the clear pad.

I've been using optical mice pretty much since they starting to appear - I have also tried many different surfaces. I'd say go with the 'trial and error' approach, but anything 'reflective' (mirror, glass, ect.) in my experience is about the only thing you want to stay away from. I still use a mousepad, don't have any tracking problems and I don't feel the need to find a better mousing surface.

I think fine patterns work well, e.g. cloth mouse pads.
If you have a homogeneous surface, it will be a little more difficult for the mouse to realize it's moving. But they are rather sensitive.

I remember optical mice 8 years ago - they had a fine grid mouse pad. Those worked just as well as today.

I agree finding the right surface for optical mouse is important ,I use the , Allsop raindrop mouse pad for my optical mouse and it works great for me,do try different pads etc,you will soon know what`s best for you,btw my desk is very poor for my optical mouse being it`s too shiny which is bad for my optical sensor.

As long as the surface isn't refective or transparent it should all be the same as far as the mouse is concernd.

I actually had the same question. I was using an everglide for a while because that's all I had (didn't want to scratch up my desk). Today I got a cheap black cloth mousepad and it works great. My Logitech Dual Optical kept flashing on and off on the everglide. Now it sleeps like a good mouse.

Thats odd, I've always used my Everglide Giganta with optical mice without any problems. The Everglide should work fine, unless its one of the white pads, those have been known to cause problems, prolly do to reflecting to much light

Yeah, it's one of the white ones.

The everlide gaming mats are a good investment. Only $10 and they are a perfect surface for an optical mouse.

To be honest I'm not sure how good of an investment Everglide pads really are, even though I'm using one right now. I bought my Giganta when they first came out and I really liked it however I started to notice the surface was starting to lose its texture after a few months. At this point it?s easily noticeable less smooth on the top of the pad as opposed to the bottom. I'm currently thinking about ordering a func surface 1030 and ditching the everglide.

The Gaming Mats are totally different than the original Attack and Giganta pads.
