newbie oc question

hi, i saw all the hype about the mobile amd chips and decided i wanted to jump in on the fun of overclocking as well.

i have decided on the mobile 2400+ and the abit nf7-s. now my question is this: i currently have two 512 sticks of PC2100 ram. do i have to upgrade this to hit those 2.4 or 2.5 ghz speeds that everyone seems to be hitting easily? thanks!

The PC2100 will work, but make sure you have the BIOS setup to run the ram at its slower speed. I suggest upgrading to faster ram though. DDR400 or better.

I would suggest running faster ram to get your max performance (the nforce2 takes a hit when you run memory out of sinc - though it can easily be done w/ the divider). PC3200 or better would be ideal. However, I believe the M chips have a native fsb of 133 (266ddr) anyway (correct me if I'm wrong). You could easily OC w/ just the multipliers.

oh awesome, thanks for the reply guys. yeah i'd recommend myself to get faster ram too, but i want to slide by with the least costs possible at the moment. =\

as for slower ram speed, what should i set it at? i havent gotten a chance to play with it yet cuz my order hasnt come yet, but im jes askin now so i know as much as possible before i start messing things up... thanks again!
