-make sure the cpu is unlocked
-make sure you have good cooling
-make sure you have good power supply
-if you plan to overclock the fsb make sure your pci cards/ram/harddrive can handle the increase in bus speed.

first thing is get your system setup, windows installed, etc, and make sure the system is stable

to overclock you have 2 options, you can increase the multiplier, or increase the fsb
a 1ghz(266) cpu defaults on a 133mhz bus with a 7.5x multiplier, or 7.5x133=1ghz
if you increase the fsb to 140mhz you will have 140x7.5 or 1050mhz 1.05ghz
or you can increase multiplier example 133x8=1060mhz or 1.06ghz
or you can use unlimited combinations.

if you DO NOT overclock the fsb, and just use the multiplier then all of your system will stay in spec except the cpu. and the faster your cpu is clocked the more juice it may need to stay stable, thats vcore, so you may need to increase the vcore to get a good overclock, for the most part you dont want to go any higher then 1.85v for the vcore

if you DO overclock the fsb you may also need to increase the i/o voltage to keep your ram/etc stable remember ram runs the same speed as the fsb, and pci and agp run as a fraction of it, 1/2 and 1/4th
