Newbie networking help

I asked a question before about having a home network where you could login from either computer (same login/pwd) and check your email so that the same messages would be on either computer and not a few messages on one computer and others on the other computer. I was told you NEED a server to do this? Can it not be done with one computer running win2k?

Also, how do i set up a network so that i can access the hard drives and cdburner from either computer?

I already have internet using a router on both computers, but would like to do the above. Could i do it? if not, what hardware or software would i still need?

Sure you can,if you are using Outlook or Outlook Express to get your pop mail. I'll assume you do use Outlook or Outlook express.

Under the menu Tools-Account (or email account depending on your version) find your pop email account. And under Properties, select the Advance tab. At the botttom, you see an option to "Leave Mail on Server" Select this PLUS leave copy on the Server for x days. This way you can download new mail on both computers without the hassle of trying to keep them snychronized with new messages.

So no, you technically don't need a server. The Server referes to your email host's server. Hope this helps.

With some PO3 servers you can leave a copy of the mail on the server, it also depends on what email software you are using. Go into each system and enable sharing for the drives you want other people to see.
