newbie needs some advice

I have a AMD Duron 1.2 ghz processor, and i need some advice for a good motherboard. I would like to spend around $100 on this. I dont care about RAID, overclocking, onboard video, or onboard audio. But I would like 2100 DDR memory and room for future upgrades.

I was looking at the Tyan Tiger S2460 as a possibility because of its potential for upgrades, but I am afraid it won't fit into a mid-tower case. So now I am thinking that a single-processor mb is all i really need...

Please help me....

i would get something based on the kt333 chipset

my personal preference is the epox 8k3a or 8k3a+ (the + version has raid so it probably wont interest you)

I'm not sure what you mean by upgrades since AMD will be leaving the sktA behind soon but I would suggest the 8K5A2 as it's replacing the 8K3A already and has USB2.0 in addittion to all the features the 8K3A has and is in stock@Mwave.com for 86$ and ofcourse supports all current AMD sktA CPUs.

it was my impression that the socketA will still be around for awhile

true that the hammer will require a new socket type... but the new revision of tbred is coming soon, and then the barton

but im not sure how long the barton will be around... ive heard conflicting reports
