I've read the info on creating a system disk and a second disk with the flash program and Bios.

After I disable the Bios Protection and reboot with the system disk, I'm in Windows. Do I just run the AMI flash from the dos prompt or do I need to reboot to dos?

Please help, this Bios update stuff really makes me nervous.

Do it from there, if for some reason the Flash Util can't do the job it will error out before doing damage.

Try not to worry too much, the first time is always the scariest. But after that you realize it's pretty damned easy to do! And you wonder why the heck you were so scared!

Good Luck!

You boot into dos. You can either doit from a floppy or by pressing F8 and selecting command prompt. Some versions of bios utils need himem.sys loaded some don't want it at all, so you may have to select command prompt safe mode. Very few bios utils want to be used from a dos window. Some manufacturers include a bat file that performs the flashing, alls you have to do is run the bat file. Most older bios utils reqire your input, so remember the name of the file you want to flash you may be asked for it.

I just wanted to add--Also make sure to not turn off the power button or interupt the bios update before it has been completed. It should only take a few minutes.

Also make sure you read the steps that your mobo maker has posted on how to do a bios update.
