Newbie motherboard questions

Hello,

1; If the computer starts up (there is power, fans whirring), but the motherboard does not POST, and does not beep any error message, does this mean for sure that the motherboard is dead? I would imagine that if it had been a graphics card or CPU error, I would get an error beep code.
Additional info: I have a X850, during normal startups it will run its fan on 100%, and after POST it will spin down to 5%. Now, it keeps running on 100%. The monitor does not light up, the drive lights are constantly on, so I can't try to flash the BIOS.
I have no possibility for testing the CPU and graphics card on my own.

2; Not really an important question, but what happened to the error displays on motherboards? I had a similar thing happen to an Epox back in 2003, it had two 7-segment displays that showed a BIOS error code, and I knew for sure that I had to replace the mobo and didn't have to test the CPU and graphics card.

3; I have heard people spilling drinks on their keyboards, resulting in the keyboard shorting and damaging the motherboard through the PS/2. Is this true?

A month ago, I spilled some water on my keyboard while the computer was on. Nothing happened, I shut down, let it it dry, and the computer ran just fine.
Could the water have done some latent damage that didn't show up until now? Or is this simply not possible.
I'm just looking for a reason for why a 10 month old, stock-running ASUS mobo would die on me. I have it connected to a UPS so I don't think a power surge could have done it.

Many thanks for any answers in advance!
Edit: Did try with a different stick of mem, did not help, have no spare CPU or graphics card to test. I also have a habit of occasionally checking voltages with mbm and have not noticed any deviations from the norm in the near past.

Cant really answer 1 or 2, But for 3, you've got a greater chance of winning the lottery and getting struck by lightining on the same day, then shorting your motherboard like that. Find it strange how people even manage to spill cups/glasses over onto their keyboard lol

Try removing everything, but the CPU, RAM and Video card. See if it POSTs then.

PS - Welcome :)

Thanks for the welcome,
I did try that, but forgot to mention it in the OP. Also tried using a different mem slot with a different stick.

P.S. I guess your question answers my first question- I thought that any despite any non-motherboard error, the mobo would still manage to post and sound of an error beep.

GODDEH- thanks for getting that worry out of the way.
