I have 2 CDs that I ftp'd from a friend of mine, both about 600+mb

I was told they were 7.2 or so.

So I burned the 2 .ISO images, but tried to boot to cd and got nowhere...they don't seem to be bootable I would guess.

All the error said was "PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT"....and so you loop....no good.

So what do I need to do here to play with this ???

Thx guys...

I believe you can also boot from floppy disk, I used them to upgrade from 7.0 -> 7.2, but you should be able to boot and select "new installation" when presented with that option.

You can download the boot.img file and using rawrite (DOS) copy the image file to a floppy and reboot from your floppy disk
drive. I am assuming that the system will recognize your CD ROM since it will at some point during the install process ask you to put your ISO #1 in the CD ROM drive.

Check out this Redhat installation link.

Good Luck!

Here's some simple questions. Did you download and install md5sum for windows and did you run it before burning the ISO images ? Also did you recieve any errors while running md5sum ? Second did you burn the ISO using a application that nows how to burn ISO's correctly? You know burning the ISO as a image. What application did you use to burn it ?

No, and I don't know what md5sum is...never heard of it.

I burned the IOSs using EZCD Creator...version 4.05 deluxe.

So I wonder if I need to do something special to "MAKE" them bootable.

I thought the image itself might have had that in the image...but it did not work....hence my post here.

My CD-Rom is bootable and was set correctly in the bios for this attempt.

So let me know what you think about all of this ....

Thx again for all the help and tips....:)

I would start by making sure the ISO's are good. That's what md5sum is for. Do a search on download.com and you'll find a program to do it. Run it on the two ISO's. It will return a string of letters and numbers for each ISO. Compare that to the string in this file (3rd and 4th entries). They have to be exactly the same or the ISO is bad.

Then make sure you burned them right in EasyCD. There should be a File>Record CD from image (or something similar) option. If that still doesn't work (I've seen it happen) you can make a boot floppy. On the Redhat CD, look for "rawrite.exe" in the "dosutils" directory. Run it and enter the boot floppy image "boot.img" in the "images" directory (e:\images\boot.img if your CD drive is E). Make sure there's a floppy in the drive. Then put the CD in and boot from the floppy.

Ok..well I downloaded md5 and checked both images....both came out exactly as you said...to the letter.

But I think your tip on "burn from image" instead of just dragging into the lower pane would cause my problem.

So I'm off to burn these over from image this time

Thx...and I'll post again soon to this tread with my results.

I'm installing Linux as I type this...

I wasn't thinking when I burned the first CDs...

This was more of a burning problem than a Linux problem....

I just havn't used the burn from image option too many times and just burned as usual....my bad.

Heisenberg nailed it when he said to make sure I was using the "Burn from image" option.

Thx again for the help....:)
