This should ne in the General Hardware forum...but who cares ;)

Look for at least a 10x drive. You really dont need a decoder card since u got a sb live (handles the audio outputs).

I'd get a 16X DVD-ROM, & a Realmagic Hollywood+ decoder (for the best possible image quality). That's what I'm setting up in my system, all I need now is the drive.

I would also try to make your computer as silent as possible. I sold my SC750 in favor of a nice mid-tower, dropped my P3 from 980 to 933 with just a GORB, & eliminated all case fans. Now it's very quiet... Pefect for DVD.

Get a Sony Wega. Get the SB LIVE! with 5.1 support. Throw out the V3 3000 and get yourself an ATI Radeon 64MB VIVO(Has HDTV support, I think). Then shut your case up, dynamat if you have to, and enjoy!

Ausm,

Can you check this thread please?

As for DVD, just add a Pioneer slot load 16X/40X and you'll be set. You have plenty of CPU and RAM horsepower, and the V3-3000 does DVD surprisingly well.

Supergroove...

Why pay the cost of a SB Live 5.1? A Hollywoo+ can be purchased for $50, & that does 5.1 output. Plus then you get the image quality & low CPU overhead of the dedicated hardware decoder.
