Hello! I am new to networking and I am trying to set up a home network consisting of two computers, one running win95 and one running win98. I have the computers connected via the Linksys Cable/DSL Router. I did setup the DSL sharing successfully, but I cannot get the networking to work. When I opened the network neighborhood, I saw "entire network" icon, but no computers listed. Can someone help me with this? Thanks a lot in advance!

Make sure you've installed the IPX/SPX and/or NetBEUI protocol on both computers.

hmm... I have a question, does all routers have a switch/hub built-in? The reason I am asking this is, if your router does not have a switch or a hub built-in, then you can only share the cable modem or DSL but won't have a LAN. I am not that familiar with routers, that's why I asked...

Regarding the message from "claw", you don't have to have ipx/spx or netbeui installed. The only protocal that you have to have installed is tcp/ip.

My network is now working - partially.

The win 98 can see the win 95 machine and access its drives and printers, but the win 95 machine cannot see the win 98 machine at all in the network neighborhood. The mouse pointer becomes a flashlight (searching for computer) forever. Can someone suggest what might be happening?

i have followed the advice in Shields up. Works fine!
