NEWBIE: Help me.. 2100+ TBRED B

AthlonXP (Palomino) 1700+
Soltek SL-75DRV4 (KT266a)
3x256 PC2100 RAM
ATI Radeon9700 PRO
Windows XP

I am getting a 2100+ TbredB soon. Will it work on my motherboard? Also for overclocking should I replace one of the 256 PC2100 RAM with some faster ram?

I'm new so I'm not into pushing to the limit and I'll use the normal heatsink fan.

I just want to know what to do just for a modest overclock. Thanks in advance. Also, do I need to unlock for the multiplier at all?

Check with soltek's website to see if that board supports tbred's first. That board has pretty decent overclock features, such as multiplyer adjustment, vdimm, vcore and such. But no PCI/agp lock.

Since the motherboard is old, they took that info out!

EDIT: It does not support the Tbred B 🙁

Oh well I ordered EP-8RDA+. Is that a good enough motherboard?

Will overclocking be OK if I just use the 3x256 PC2100 ram or should I replace one of the sticks to be higher?

Since you already have 2100DDR just run it synch with the CPU and push a few mhz at a time till you find the max stable speed and leave it there then bump the multiplier up to find the CPU's ceiling till you can ante up for 3200DDR.

I have basically the same board (Soltek SL-75DRV2) and was quite disappointed to find that they won't release a BIOS upgrade to add support for the Tbred's🙁. That's my first and last Soltek--I'm sticking with the big boys. Mobos with the KT266A chipset from Abit, Asus, Shuttle, etc. have released BIOS's to support the Tbred's so I don't know why Soltek can't (maybe a ploy to force users to upgrade:disgust: ). I know Soltek officially said Tbred's won't work with our board, but since you're gonna get that TBred anyway, you might as well pop it in for a quick test and help the rest of us with this board out😉. Or better yet, since you KNOW you want to upgrade to the Tbred 2100+, maybe you can order that first and see if it works on the Soltek before ordering that 8RDA+. Who knows, you may not have to get a new board after all. In any case, let us know how it goes.

In other words, buy PC3200 RAM and replace it with one of the PC2100 ram slots and then put FSB to 166 right? Possibly play with multiplier later right?

You have to replace ALL the PC2100 RAM, since its the lowest RAM speed that will set your OC..
