So I got a zalman reservoir off a friend for cheap (this one) because he was going away to college and it has a bum a cpu block. After half a year I finally want to get around to install it. so I'm looking for recommendations on a new cpu block that is >$50. Also do these blocks generally come with fittings or I am supposed to know what kind I need to get that goes with the block. thanks in advance for your replies

Welcome to the forum,

I hate to say this but that thing wouldn't make a good vase let alone cool a modern system.
#1. you need a new block
#2. the pump is inadequate
#3. it is aluminum so you need to use anti corrosion fluids
#4. in an open system like this you'll need to "top off" frequently, not only will evaporation be a problem but contaminants getting in will cause more problems
#5. even if you get past all that it won't have the ability to cool a modern system.

given time this list could get really long so I'll stop here, my condolences on your purchase, it would make a neat vase but being aluminum it would need to be lined before it was safe for flowers.🙁

actually its a closed system.

The top closes, and it uses convection to cool the pot.

but like WB is saying its not a very good unit.

It probably has a max heat capacity of around 100-150W, which is well within a single processor range, until you get into high overclocking quadcores.

Zalman offers an optional fan for the unit, and you can get that to boost your cooling potential.

As for waterblocks, if your set on using it, the only blocks i would recomend are the ones from zalman.

Possibly koolance might work because the base is nickle plated, and innovotek would also work since they dont have a cpu block thats copper.

I would avoid mixing a copper block in your reserator tho, and i would use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze + Distilled or a premix.

A newbie should not be mixing metals.... that will most definitely make you never want to watercool a computer ever again.
