Sorry fellas! I'm a newcomer and I don't known what difference is there (?) between socket 423 and 478, and I'm thinking buying an ASUS p4 Mb, and there is one P4 -TF with 478 and P4-TE with 423. What's the matter?
Thanks.

Socket 478 is the newer format. All of the new P4's will use 478. Most of the current P4 chips (except maybe the current fastest) come in both flavors. Go 478 if you don't already have the processor.

Socket 423 is now effectively obsolete. Go with the Socket 478 ASUS P4T-E or P4B266.

Socket 423 - 432 pins in the socket. Old Pentium IVs use this.
Socket 478 - 478 pins in the socket. New Pentium IVs use this. :)
