(newbie) computer won't boot after messing with bios

I'm new to the overclocking thing.

On my old Duron/KT7 combo I tried juicing up the FSB some, and the computer would turn on, the fans would run, but nothing would happen (no beep). I could fix it by clearing the CMOS.

Now, since the same thing happens with my 2500+/MSI delta-L, I thought hey, maybe this is something I'm doing wrong!

SO, what does it mean when that happens? Is it that I'm changing a setting that I'm not supposed to change? Am I not feeding the processor enough power?

each time it happened I had to go through a ritual of unplugging it/plugging it, clearing the CMOS, setting the jumper to "safe" 100 FSB mode in random orders until it would boot up again. I finally got it to run at the proper 2500+ speeds so I'm just going to leave it be until I know what I'm doing.

It's not necessarily the "process" that you're executing that's wrong... I think it's more of a hardware incompatibility with the settings you're trying to allocate.

It's like when I set my RAM timings to 2.5-3-2-6... the same thing happens to me. But if I set the timings to 2-3-2-6, my system runs fine. My mobo won't run on CAS 2.5; it will only run on CAS 2 or 3.

I know you're not talking about RAM here, but it's generally the same idea regardless.

huh. i was just playing with basic settings, mostly the FSB. i was trying to search on google and it's a problem that many people seem to encounter, some just toss out their components without ever knowing that they could fix it by messing with cmos jumpers and stuff.

i have a similar board by msi and it is very picky with the fsb/memory settings
if i had 1 stick of memory then i could run cl 2 and a 138fsb
but with 2 or 3 sticks i had to down it to cl 3 and 133

just clear the bios when it messes up like that (the manual could say) also there might be bios updates (company website)
if all else fails just use one memory stick till you get you settings saved next time

so could it be that when i'm changing my processor's settings, the memory somehow isn't compatible anymore and i have to mess with those settings too?

possibly

just get everything to default and go from there with the latest bios
but make sure you get the system stable before trying to update the bios
also search google and download a memtest86+ bootable cd or floppy
