I haven't built a computer, since upgrading my 333 well over a decade ago, lol. Since then, I have always purchased a lower/mid class gateway, dell, etc... I have decided to build this time. 80% of usage is for photography and photoshop and lightroom editing, 15% home video editing, and 5% misc. NO GAMING. I do however plan to buy a cheap vid card either initially, or very soon, so I don't need onboard/integrated video.

Also, I use external hard drives alot, so I am interested in USB 3.0 So it is important to me to have a couple in back but also a couple in front of the case.

I was looking at some mobo and came across these two. Forgive me, like I said, I am new at this. What are the real differences on these two, and which is the better of the two. (It seems to me, the one is better for video card combos, which I won't be using, but not sure what else) Also, if one of these two boards aren't that good, could you guys link to a couple to consider? Thanks.

Either one of the boards that you have listed will be more than sufficient for your needs. The GEN3 is much better with PCIE 3.0 and some minor additions but the regular Extreme4 is good enough already unless you're willing to spend a mere $5 extra.

Since you're not gaming an IGP is definitely what you're looking for. All Sandy Bridge processors come with an IGP built in with the processor so you don't need a discrete GPU. I would highly recommend getting a Core i7 2600 or Core i7 2600K if you intend to do some overclocking. Also to note is the ability to use Quick Sync for faster video transcoding with the appropriate software.
