Newbie Alert: Installing DVD Burner

Hey there,

I bought a DVD Burner today, the BenQ 1620, and it's time to install it. As far as hardware installations go, I am relatively new, having only installed RAM and a sound card in the past. (Those were simple enough) 🙂

Anyway, I just have a simple question:

I'm looking at the power connectors right now. The connector that is attached to my current CDRW has 1 yellow, 2 black, and 1 red wire. The one connected to my hard drive has 2 yellow, 4 black, and 2 red wires. Two power connectors with 1 yellow, 2 black, 1 red each are attached to my floppy drive and a side case fan respectively.

This leaves me with one available power connector which has 2 yellow, 4 black, and 2 red wires attached to it. My gut feeling is that this does not matter, but I just want to make sure I can indeed use this to connect to my DVD Burner without it getting too much juice and frying or something.

So I guess what I'm asking is if all of these connectors are interchangeable and "standardized". 🙂

I know the answer is probably simple but better safe then sorry. Thanks in advance. 🙂

the ones with 2 sets of wires are just for the rest of the power connectors on that string of connectors. if you look around, you will probably see that there is more than one connector on each string of wires and they all lead back to the power supply. as long as the connector is the same type, you can use it on the new drive. they are all standardized connectors called molex connectors.
