I am travelling cross country for my friends wedding. When asked for a link to their wedding registry he said I don't need to buy the gift because I'm already spending on the ticket.

I tried insisting but he never sent me the registry. So I decided to get them a membership in the wine club (they get 2 bottles of wine for 6 months). I realize I didn't have to get anything, but I still wanted to, seeing as this is one of my best friends.

My only concern was if buying somebody a non-physical gift was considered tacky. Any ideas?

It would be tackier if you gave them something they already are getting ;)

I think the wine club is a great idea... assuming they like wine of course.

Unlike most people at the wedding who will have picked something off the registry, you have actually put some thought into your gift. I think that's a good thing.

Then again, I don't know much about wedding gifts.

Thats better than a physical gift which will be forgotten in 10 minutes. Yours will be remembered for ten minutes a month for 6 months.

I think you picked a great gift, and I think your friend is a good friend for believing in what he said.

You'll be fine.

If they're wine drinkers, your set.

On another note, finding where this guy is registered should be damn easy. Do you not know anyone else going to this thing? Get on the phone and ask.

Also, I wonder if this guy's wife-to-be knows he's telling guests not to buy a gift? Is this a second marriage or something? Weddings = gifts. Simple concept. You're doing the right thing by getting this guy something.
