I feel really stupid asking this but I cannot figure out how to configure the switch. I just bought a 24 port switch off of ebay. It was advertised as a 10/100 switch but computers connected to it only get 10 mbps connections. For reference, it is a 1u rackmount SMC Tigerswitch with no obvious serial or model number. I believe it is a year or two old. I cannot find the exact model on google searches. On the front, in addition to the 24 rj-45 jacks, there is a serial port marked NMS port, and a slightly larger aux 1 port and a select button. The options for select are Usr, Col, Act, RX, and TX. I assumed TX stood for fast ethernet so I switched to it after I could not get a 100 Mbps connection on the default setting. What settings do I need to change to get fast ethernet connectivity?

Thanks

A model number would be extremely helpful. It may be a simple configuration issue. You may have gotten ripped off. Without more details, it's difficult to help you.

Failing that(having a model number), a link to the eBay auction would be helpful - it might reveal info you haven't posted here.

connect a serial cable to the serial port from a computer.

open a terminal program with settings of 9600 8N1.

hit return a few times and see if you get anything.
