Newb question about Z-640s

How do you set up the speakers on the z-640's? all the speakers would but with the nvmixer wizard it will only set it as 4 speaker config instead of 5.1. Even though sound does come up on the sub, the volume has to be controlled via right rear on the nvmixer menu. Can anyone step me through the set up steps? thanks

BTW, Using the onboard realtek 5.1 sound on the Shuttle AN35N ultra.

Did you select 5.1 (or Surround) in the Windows XP Control Panel under Sounds and Audio Devices, Advanced?

I don't know about the problem with your sound card settings though.

5.1= 6 speakers 😉,so WobbleWobble is correct, btw you can download and run NV Swap Utility, that`s good for testing all speakers and also swapping bass(sub) and centre sound around if you find they are reversed sound wise(I had to use it to set bass and centre speaker right since sound was reversed on my DFI NF2 without the utility in my case).

Here's another newb speaker question, so I don't create an extra thread: I want to buy Z-640 to replace the $5 pair that came with my PC, but I'm unsure I'll be able to use them. Currently using onboard audio on my ECS K7SEM motherboard, which is SiS 730S based. I also have an old Sound Blaster Live! Value sitting in my closet. Will I be able to use either of those, or will I have to buy a new sound card as well? The Live has only front and rear line out, but also an SPDIF pin-out which I might be able to hook up to.

The Z-640's will work fine with the SBLive. You'd just have to use the Matrix button on the center speaker to get sound out of the center. I'm not familiar with SiS audio though.

The SIS audio is 2 channel only (there are 5 and more channels only with another audio chip/codec). The SB Live has 5.1 channels of sound (but I'm no sure of your specific model). Use the model number written on the card and check on Creative site

I found th matrix button doesn't do much so I just went and bought a y cable and bridged the left to the front and back and same with the right. That made then considerably louder then using the button.
