Newb question about Vista

So, I have this 4 year old Dell Dimension 4100 (I think it's a P4 2.4 ghz, it's got 1 gig of Corsair Value Ram and a AIW Radeon 9000 in it).

I'm tired of bad programs for my Haupagge PVR 150, so I want to take either the Vista or MCE plunge. Just some questions:

1). Will that even run Vista? I don't mind getting a new vid card if needed. I don't game at all, by the way.

2). Which version should I get? I mean, I remember seeing something about how the DVD comes with pretty much everything...so should I just buy the 64bit wiz-bang version and then whenever I upgrade I have whichever one I need? Does it even work like that?

3). Is Vista a lot better than MCE (I really only care about the TV turning/Tivo functionalities).

Thanks SO MUCH!

Are you using XP now? IMHO, it's not very cost effective to get MCE or Vista MCE just for the DVR abilities. I would take a look at some of the third party software available.

A few of the popular ones:
gbpvr (free)
SageTV (I use this)
BeyondTV (I don't like this, but a lot of other people do)
MythTV (linux and free)

Sage and Beyond both have free trials. MCE 2005 and the software above would all run fine on your system. I dunno about Vista MCE.
