This is a pretty dumb question, but since I have no experience with installing fans, I need a little help. I am trying to attach a Delta 80mm fan to an Alpha PAL8045 heatsink. The delta has screw holes at both the top and bottom. I basically need to know if I am supposed to run the screw through the top holes or the bottom. If I go through the top, the screws aren't long enough to reach through the bottom and screw into the bottom of the heat sink. If I go through the bottom, the screw head skews against the side of the fan and won't go straigth through the heat sink.

Am I missing something or I am I just monumentally stupid? Help plz!!

Hmmm...I just installed one last night, so I might be able to help...

The shorter silver-colored screws are the ones that you use to attach the heatsink to the standoffs on the mobo. (I almost used the wrong ones yesterday)

The longer copper-colored screws go through the bottom holes, using the metal washers between the screw head and the fan hole. It should screw in just fine.

I'm still not sure, however, if I have the heatsink screwed on tight enough to the CPU - my temps are a bit too high, IMHO.

But that's another story... ;)

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the help, Indy. The Delta fan I have actually has tubes running from the top screw holes to the bottom. Two of the tubes are half open but two are completely enclosed. It looks like this fan was meant to have the screws run through the top holes, but the screws that came with the Alpha are only long enough to be run through the bottom holes.

Has anybody else installed the Delta 86 CFM fan? Are there some special long screws that you're supposed to use? I guess I'll head down to the hardware store to see if they have some screws that will work.
