OK newb question about the 850PRO and the 800XL Why does the 800 Perform better? if the 800 performs better why is the 850 model number higher than the 800? Do the model numbers mean anything?

Microcenter had the 800XL for 299.99 and the X850PRO for 299.99 as well. Im pretty confused now.

The X850 Pro is something like an overclocked x800 Pro, AFAIK, but it still has something like 12 pixel pipelines. The X800xl has slower clock speeds, but it has 16 pipelines to make up for it (like a lower-clocked x800xt).

Does anyone know how much of an overclock an X800Pro or X850Pro needs to equal a stock X800XL in performance?

From the X800P's point of view, I'm assuming you need to get it to 533mhz from 475mhz (stock speed).

From what I've seen, the x850pro and x800xl are almost identical in game benches. There's maybe 5 fps difference between them at the most.

However, you can flash the X850pro Vivo to an XT, and that clinches the decision for me.

They're close. The extra pipelines are a bit better with AA/AF though.

I owned an X800 Pro that overclocked to 525/525, and it took about that in order to equal the performance of the X800XL I got awhile later at stock 400/490 clocks. The extra 4 pipelines really make the X800XL a great card.

I have a X800 Pro, and the furthest I have overclocked it 100% stable was 570 Core....and 1174 on the Memory 2.0 Samsung. Now at a core of 570....My fillrate was 6840..Which is pretty good. Stock my fillrate is 5700. The x800 XL fillrate is 6400. And your lucky if it will overclock much at all. I can score probably a bit higher than a XL would. But havent ran any test's or bench'es. But all in all, all this being said...That doesnt by any means run out and buy one. Although they are X800 Pro's on Ati.com refurb for $179 I think it was with 3-year warranty. http://shop.ati.com/searchresults.asp?dept_id=39 I bought the card because when I did...It was EXCELLENT. But now I have money ready and waiting for the X1800XT
