Newb PC questions

Some newb questions for a first day PC owner.

1. Will one MSI out of box overclocked 980 TI, a 4790k, and 16gb 1600 ram be enough to play fallout four at 1440p, 144hz?

On ultra... ahem. I mean, that's why I spent 700 dollars on a graphics card. But then I bought a 1440p 144hz monitor basically cutting my graphics card by 75% (50% for double the resolution, then another 50% and more actually for double the normal frame rate, 50% of 50% is 25%).

Another way to ask the question: what frame rate should I set fallout 4 to, and what settings? Can 144hz monitor even do 60hz or 72hz?

2. And how do I turn g-sync on? Is that on automatically?

3. I found where to download nvidia drivers but I'm not sure whether I want those ones, or MSI ones from the disc that came with the 980ti that I already installed?

4. If you got a free Witcher 3 game code on a card from newegg when you bought your GPU, but your mom threw out the box with the card in it, can I still access the code online?

5. What basic commands should I know? Like I had to google to figure out volume control, still don't know how to copy and paste on a PC with the keyboard but I'll look it up. Basic stuff like that keeps coming up. If there's anything you think I should know before I come across it, let me know.

6. Oh, I figured out how to adjust the mouse sensitivity ("tracker sensitivity") in Control Panel -> Hardware -> Mouse, but what about the actual mouse's CPL that you're supposed to be able to mess with? I have the Naos 7000 and it's supposed to also have a programmable button I think for macro/hot key. How do I do that? I also have the Razor Blackwidow keyboard that's supposed to light up I think and put your health bar on the keyboard, although maybe that was just the expensive one I couldn't get. In any case the keyboard can definitely do hotkeys, I was sure to get that. Yeah I can't copy and paste but I was damn picky about my keyboard having hotkeys. Makes so much sense lol. Well, it's about future proofing, having it there once I learn how to use it, instead of then having to buy a new keyboard later. But if anyone knows how to do it?

7. I haven't played a video game with a mouse and keyboard in over 10 years. Should I play fallout with a controller where I'm comfortable, and will my xbox 360 controller work plug and play or do I need to download something, or will it be better with mouse and keyboard? Also do you need to put the difficulty higher than usual when you play shooters on PC since it's easier to aim with a mouse?

Man that reminds me, I should get GTA 5 on PC. I remember playing Vice City on my friend's PC like 15 years ago, and that was awesome. Then on console, cool, but auto aim took away. GTA 5 was still good on console but I bet it's way better with real aiming with a mouse, which the game was not designed for on console.

my computer's sleep option is greyed out in the start menu, so I set it to hibernate figuring maybe this was the new version of sleep. Then when the screen just went black with a blinking | icon for a few seconds I panicked and tried to undo it. The comp purred a bit, then went blue asking if I wanted out, so I hit a key and nothing happened, so I hit it a few more times, and then it came out of it.

I only read afterwards that hibernate is meant for laptops that will be off awhile. Mine is a desktop and I woke it up only after like 10 seconds of being hibernated. Do you think I messed up the computer?

Also if it will let me put it to sleep after I download 200 windows updates including drivers, will steam still download when it's asleep?

Sleep is a low-power state, but still "on".

Hibernate stores the contents of RAM on the HDD, then turns off. This takes longer to turn off and turn on than sleep, but it's theoretically faster to turn on than a reboot. (Practically, some drives are really slow!)

Can 144hz monitor even do 60hz or 72hz?
You generally don't get a 144Hz monitor to play every game at 144Hz. You get it so that whenever the next frame is ready, it's displayed within 1/144 of a second, regardless of how long it's been since the last frame. So a frame is likely to stay on the monitor for 2 cycles (effective 72Hz), 3 cycles (effective 48Hz), or even more.

But you got a G-Sync monitor. G-Sync means the monitor can show frames at whatever rate the video card produces them, up to 144Hz. The monitor waits for a new frame before refreshing.

I can't answer a lot of the other questions, because I've never played on a console.
