my friends and I are looking to get into paintball this summer. we are newbs, and are wondering what some decent guns are, some essential equipment, and the like. we'd like to spend about $150 each.

thanks,

fs/t, tippman98 or spyder of any sort

pbnation.com
pbreview.com

look at their forums

Kingman Spider or one of the Tippman models, there both easy to maintane and close to your price, though would recommend you at least bump your limit to 200 to 250.

Also look around for shops in your area, and purchase your gun local granted you will pay a little more for it
but most shops that I have been too, will give free maintenance on there guns they sell minus parts though
and you wont have to go through the hassel of returing the gun if there is some flaw in it.

You can get a descent spyder for $100. I have the Spyder Compact 2-in-1 and it works great. I only go paintballing maybe once a month and it works great. Don't buy a super expensive gun if your not going to be using it so much. Every time I go I play against people with guns worth 5x as much as mine and I do just fine. As long as you play smart then you'll have a good time. I've owned this gun for over a year and only broken about 3 balls. I say go with a Kingman or Tippman.

Spyder 2-in-1

By the way, where are you at? Where do you plan on playing?

ivol07 that isnt the one with the plastic body is it, or is that the Sport model?

I use and Old School AutoCocker

97model that is heavily modified.

I also recommend a Spyder. Spyder's are good affordable guns in your price range. I own a SpyderTL and it's been a good reliable gun. Just clean and oil it after each use and it will remain reliable for years. When you buy paintballs make sure you get good quality paint. Don't buy any of that Brass Eagle crap.

(shudders at the mention of Brass Eagle)

My wife uses only Diablo paint in her Java Spider, any other paint is either to small or to large of bore for it, same with a friend of mine seems Kingman makes most Spiders with a .68 to .69 bore on all there stock barrels.

thanks for the good advice guys. i have another question though, it probably sounds pretty dumb, but remember, i'm a newb.
what do you guys wear when you play? like old, beat up clothes with lots of padding, or do you buy like army surplus camoflauge fatigues?

I consider the Tippmann 98 Custom to be one of the best beginners guns, affordable, upgradable and tough!

In my oppion the spyder imagine, I am selling one under the fourm the link its good for anyone who wants to become a decient sniper AKA bush wacker as we call them localy....

When I first started I used old pair of jeans, a dark long sleeve t-shirt, and some old tennis shoes, after I got more into it I bought a pair of camo pants from a Salvation army store for 5 bucks and used dark colored T-shirts. It gets pretty hot (in so. cal) so I try and not wear heavy padded clothes it just makes you feel uncomfortable

I must agree thoroughly with this, the thing is built like a tank, it has less of the mving parts and it lasts, also it takes less oiling and what not. Anyway, I always suggest going to L=xpaintball.com]xpaintball.com[/L], they usually have really good specials, and they give good packages and have the best prices, *(at least they did 4 years ago.)[

depending on the day... if it's nice:
jt pro pants
jt jersey
brass eagle armored gloves
a oakley hat on backwards
cleats

crappy day:
jt pro pants
sweatshirt
full fingered fox racing gloves
same oakley hat, or if my sweatshirt has a hood
cleats

Tippmann 98 Custom. Hell, I'll even sell you mine if you want it. I got out of the sport around 6 months-1 year ago. Great condition, PB 8 stage X-Chamber, PB 7" drop forward, Tippmann double trigger, Dye sticky grips, Lapco 12" Bigshot barrel... some other goodies...

dont paintballs hurt you when they hit you? or no? i was imagining that people had to wear body armor and stuff to play. otherwise itd break your bones.

yea.. if you want a gun that is 3 feet long 😛

imo, automags are the best beginner gun you can find, and if you decide to follow the game further you'll have an awsome gun with a wide variety of mods that can be done to it. second up would be a spyder, small, lightweight, lots of parts are available, easy to maintain, affordable.

if your looking to buy online, and dont' mind used, try the FS/FT forum here... or ebay, i picked up my first mag off of ebay, came with a ton of goodies and it was a damn good price. new online, the only place i ever buy from is www.paintballgear.com

lol not going to break your bones by getting shot with a paintball. depending on where you get hit, it can hurt. back of the arms, anywhere around the face, back of the legs, fingers... any other tender areas usually sting a bit.

so is it dangerous to play paintball with no protection? or is it not necessary to have protection?

you are required to wear an approved facial mask thats the only required saftey equipment because those paintballs fly at like 280 - 300fps and could kill you if you got hit in the eye or temples

You have to wear a mask, and I like to wear gloves, but I think the pain is overrated. Everybody was always telling me how much it hurts b4 I started but its really not bad.
The 98 custom is not that much longer than a Spyder or Pirhanna so don't worry about that.
