hey everyone, brand new here and a little bit in the computer scene. i just encountered a problem with my comp that i cant figure out. the other day i lost power when i was out, when i come back my comp is on but there is no display on any of my screens. turn off and on my comp and hear 1 long beep and 3 short beeps, take out my graphics card and clean the inside of my comp with a compressor and the card connectors. turn on comp and it boots up, displays the windows logo then once my comp finishes loading up the programs on the tray it freezes on me. i took out all four of my 1 gb ram sticks and put them in one at a time, but the problem still occurs. just bought new ram, but im wary of opening it if the problem still persists. any advice is greatly appreciated.

You need to check what the beep codes indicate with your BIOS manufacturer and take it from there as your first step to troubleshoot the problem. Also run a chkdsk to see if there was any HDD damage. What kind of system do you have? A little more info would be helpful. And welcome to the forum.

Do you have a surge protector?
If not then your PSU might be the culprit of the problem.

i dont really remember the exact details for my system, i had them on the comp that's not working. but from what i can remember, i have a intel core 2 due, a p5q Pro motherboard, geforce gtx 260 graphics card. i checked to see if i have a surge protector and the one that my comp's power is plugged into is a power tap/ surge suppressor. i dont really know how to chkdsk, but once i get back from school i'll find out.

One long beep followed by 3 short beeps is an indication of a VGA problem according to the PQ5 Pro user manual. You might need to try swapping out the graphics card.

A word of advice: invest in a decent UPS. If you get a good model, the batteries will be replaceable and it will last you for years.

ok. I fixed my video problem, but the comp still keeps freezing on me after 5 minutes.i'm pretty sure its not the ram because I tried each one separately and the problem occurs for each one.

Are you still using the video card or the onboard video? If you are still using the video card and the motherboard supports onboard video I would try that out.
