Newb help please-SOYO mobo won't post

Had a guy give me this home built rig he was messing with that he couldn't get it going. Mobo is Soyo SY-K7VME. I shouldn't say it won't post becasue sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Doesn't seem to like it when I have floppy drive atttached, (tried changing floppy cable to no avail) but even when it's not attached I sometimes have problems getting it to post.

Removed CMOS battery, reset jumpers etc, that works sometimes only. When it does boot up, it sometimes hangs before I can get into BIOS, the few times I get it to post, and can try and load XP it hangs before finsihing install.

I've done some googling and it looks like this mobo is not exactly the best, as you might be able to tell I don't know much about this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The k7vme is now going for $23 and something cents at Microcenter in the bargain bin. I just bought one last week but remember, Soyo is out of the motherboard business.

Your capacitors are probably leaking. Check for some white stuff on top or if the top is rounded, as it should be flat.

Got a guy who wants to sell me a cheap mobo that I figure I can swap into the rig that the SOYO pos was in. It's a MSI KT4AV, any good? Figured I can pop in the AMD processor from the SOYO board and see if I can get this puppy going. If so, I think I'll be in good ashape as I have a good amount of RAM, a nice video card, etc.

Again, I am a noob at this, much better at software repairs etc, but this project has piqued my interest.
