Newb general question about BIOS.

I have the system below, but I was also generaly wondering about all systems. If I really screw up, say install a wrong BIOS version or delete something important, how can I do total system reinstall? I've heard bits and pieces about taking out batteries and flashing BIOSes and such, but have no idea how to put it all together to make sense.

One reason I ask (besides tinkering with my A8N), is I may try insalling a different BIOS language version on an older PC I have, and if something goes really bad, I want to be able to start over.

Well as long as you use the BIOSes from ASUS site and follow their directions during installation you shouldn't have any problems. And don't restart the system while it is in the middle of updating it, one of the worst things you can do to your computer. I think you may even be able to get a new bios chip from ASUS, but I am not sure (or you may have to send your board back to them to have them flash it). There may even be techniques to save your current BIOS to a different location.
