Newark, NJ is a hellish place.

I took a few friends I met in college home with me this weekend. In my 6 hour drive all over New Jersey I ended up getting lost in, of all places, Newark. Thankfully I know the area pretty well... enough as to not completely panic. We managed to work our way out pretty quickly but it was a wild trip.

I have been into Newark plenty times, but it never fails to leave an impression. We saw a deal going down, some guy getting patted down by cops, and another lady walking around cracked out all around the same block. These places really make me hate what people are turning into. Its terrible to see the nice communities that used to be in and around Newark turning into these zoos. People are animals I say, bloody animals.

Newark = :thumbsdown:

Newark crowd getting closer to my nice community, family, and friends.. :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:

I hope all the time that decent people can take Asbury back. It was the absolute heart of New Jersey. I'm optimistic however, shore property tends to make nice turn arounds. Although the current trend would indicate otherwise as Seaside gets overrun with filth.

i went there yesterday (friday) since my company maintains a facility in the heart of downtown newark. the commute was awful (what would have been a 45 minute commute instead took 2.5 hours due to the rain and consequent traffic), and the fact that they're doing construction on just about every major street that leads back to 280 wasn't helping matters any. i am not familiar with the area, but fortunately, i did make it back home without much trouble. i don't like going there though. it's almost like being in the most dangerous parts of harlem.

On top of all this, I noticed there is not respect for traffic laws at all. It's a wild free for all, driving in Newark. Quite seriously..

The fact that I have enough money to enjoy decent food in a decent atmosphere is not something I would be ashamed of anyway. :thumbsup:

But, the fact that I am uncomfortable in a clearly dangerous area undermines my manhood right?

Hey,

I grew up there, now residing in CA. Lived on Bergan Ave. Have relatives still on Fairmount. Went to PS17. The scene's of Newark can be seen on The Sopranos as Tony is driving around in his SUV (intro scene). If you're around town, just stop by Saigon Cafe. Tell them I sent you. They will treat you right.
