Newark, NJ Ironbound District Portugese Restaurants

I am planning on taking a Dutch colleague there tonight but haven't yet identified a restaurant. Anyone know which ones are worth trying?

You're going to take a Dutch colleague to NEWARK at night? That'll leave a positive impression. Why not take him to a restaurant in a nice suburban town somewhere or some place in Hoboken?

If Newark is a must, I've only heard of "Don Pepe" but I'm not even sure that's Portugese.

Iberia, though i'm not sure if that's specifically spanish or portugese.

other than that, Don Pepe is a good restaurant but iirc that's predominantly spanish.

beware though, the servings at either place are HUGE.

EDIT: my co-worker just informed me that Iberia is no longer any good. stick with Don Pepe.

Believe it or not, the Ironbound is known for its Portugese cuisine.

granted, off-street parking is a must...

Believe it or not, the Ironbound is known for its Portugese cuisine.

I've heard there are lots of great Portuguese restaurants in Ironbound from one of my clients who lives in Jersey. I'll see if I email her if she can come up with some of the places she goes to.

I ate at Adega Grill not too long ago, I thought it was great.

The place that keeps getting recommended is Seabra's Marisqueria - I've heard a few different people rave about it. But I've never been there.

Enjoy, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

We ate at Seabra's Marisqueria. The decor wasn't much to speak of and the service blew but the food was fantastic.

I go to Biera Mar in Newark often. Milton, the waiter, provides excellent service, and the dining room is usually empty because the place makes most of their money off of a bar crowd (separate entrances and a 15 foot hallway between them) and special occasions. I've never been disappointed with the food.

I'm a big fan of Seabras and The Spanish Sangria.

What did you have?

We both had Sopa Do Mar (pureed shell fish soup) to start. The main courses were:

FRUTOS DO MAR NA CATAPLANA
Seafood simmered in a light tomato based sauce and
served in a copper skillet in the appetizing southern
style. Accompanied by rice
&
CARNE DE PORCO A ALENTEJANA
Cubed pork & clams braised in a garlic,
white wine and fresh coriander sauce.
Prepared in the Alentejo style
