NEW Zalman Cooler

Running

zalman finally came out with a larger version of their cnps 9500. it uses a 110mm fan, not a 120mm. it looks huge though

Are you sure about that? I mean, that'd be a good news (since it'd allow fan swap) but I have a hard time making sense out of it.

CNPS9500
112x126

CNPS9700
124x142

CNPS9500 makes use of a 92mm fan, correct? If a 120mm fan fits in the CNPS9700, the specs from Zalman leaves only 4mm of clearance + outer-ring for the fins. Is that possible?

I dunno... everyone (review sites) is saying its 110mm fan. In any event I'm seriously considering it for my next build. I love the 9500. I figure the 9700 cant be worse.

The measurement of a square-framed fan is the perpendicular distance between one side of the frame and the opposite, parallel side.

Just seems crazy expensive.

MSRP of $69 vs the 9500's MSRP of $59 sure ... but $79? ... come on.

I agree $79 is a bit much for a cooler, i mean that is basicall the difference between getting an e6400 and a e6600

cost is relative based on several factors....
Are you a poor college student?
Living at home collecting allowance?
An adult who just purchasd a home and has kids and other responsibilities that has little to no disposable income?
Possibly your an old timer living on a fixed income.
There are many other good heatsinks that are cheaper that the Zalman!
I am sure that Zalman as a company doesn`t mind if you buy somebody elses heatsink if you can`t afford theirs.
As far as price is concerned I look at the Zalman 9500 andd the 9700 as functional works of art~~!!
You have to admit being copper and all they sure to look good!!
Then you get the performance factor involved and those of us who use iether the 9500 or the 9700 for the most part we love that heatsink!!!!
As somebody who owns way more heatsinks than I will ever use I can tell you that between the top heatsink my real preference is still the XP120 which for soem reason I love.
The Tuniq temp wise is 1 sometimes 2 degrees different from the XP120 and the 9500.
Yet I find that on my over clocked gaming computer the Zalman gives me better over clocked temps.

So as I have stated in the past there truly are alot of real nice looking functional heatsinks on the market! Never befiore have we ever had so many quality products to choose from!!

Doesnt change the fact its kinda high priced, Jedi. Considering there are other bigger, heavier, and better performing HSF that are cheaper. The Zalman 9500 LED is even cheaper than the non-LED version. Zalman has some strange pricing on these particular units IMO. Prices may come down however once its been out a little while.

Exactly my thoughts.

I enjoy the quality and look of Zalman products and don't mind paying a premium for them over other brand's products that would work just as well. The pricing and stepping of thier pricing when comparing Zalman to Zalman just seems odd at times.

That's how Thermaltake is able to "market" a 130mm fan, by making the frame 10mm wider. :frown: I wasted about $8 on one.

OK I'm hearing that the fan is 110mm. I mean, how do you come up with 120mm, when the spec says 124mm wide? The only possible explanation can be made if fan sizes were measured as the diagonal distance of frames. I don't think that is the case.

nope!!! There are heavier heatsinks on the market!!
Weight is no factor unless you move your computer around alot...say from one Lan party to the next.

I have never ever heard of the weight if a heatsink leading to any problems. Usually its human error such as inproper installation that causes issues!!

Price needs to come down a lot before it will find a home in my rig.

Edit - I've been fairly disappointed with the performance the AC Freezer 64 Pro.

The official word is fan is 110mm so says Zalman. I know someone said it was a regular 120mm fan but Zalman isnt saying that. So, I'd go with what Zalman is saying till proven different. Yeah, its kinda pricey right now (although the price wouldnt keep me from buying it). Price may come down after a while depending on supply and demand. Zalman does tend to have a higher price on their 9500/9700 products for some reason. I'm one of those types that does worry about weight and height issues but the 9700 wouldnt worry me in this respect. But thats just me.

The 120mm in a regular case fan is the length of each side. The actual spinning fan in the middle is 110mm in diameter.

So, are you saying this and this are actually 110mm fans?

LoL! That's what happens when you play around with Korean stuff!

How about that dot4 kiloton flower bomb they set off? It was probably only dot3...
