So since the orginal AMD lawsuite has AMD gained market share. Was AMD able to supply all the processors the market demanded befor C2D?

Does this have anything to do with the 150 million newyork blew on the amd site . That well never be used . What state is IBM located in as far as Home office and Fabs.

THe senators and reps look stupid now. IBM showing its muscle again .

I'm having a problem deciphering your train of thought but I will make a number of points:

The agreement between AMD and the State of New York specifies that construction is to begin between July of 2007 and July 31, 2009, with the plant fully operational sometime between Dec. 31, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2014.

Total subsidies could be worth as much as $1.2 billion to AMD.

Initially AMD will spend $600 million in building the facility and $2.6 billion equipping it. The facility is on a 650-acre site in the Luther Forest Technology Park with a projected footprint spanning 1.2 million sq. ft. (making it one of the world's largest fabs).

I think the rumahs on the internets designate Malta as the AMD 32nm Fab.

So since the orginal AMD lawsuite has AMD gained market share. Was AMD able to supply all the processors the market demanded befor C2D?

As I understand it, the 'questionable practices' involve kickbacks (or what Intel euphamistically calls "rebates') for use of Intel chips to the exclusion of AMD. The use of the 'rebates' would kick in as a vendor reached a certain level of procurement.

My understanding is that the arrangements basicly allowed folks to receive 10-15% of their chips for free - provided, once again, that the vendor reached a certain level of procurement (and excluded AMD).

I don't know where the truth lies. It's probably in the missing Intel emails. I will surmise there will be as much luck in finding the missing Intel emails as there will be in finding the missing Bush White House emails.

So . Its alright for AMD to be subsides but not intel . Ireland wanted to sudside Intel but the EU stopped but they hand AMD money like its candy.

Seems to me Intel didn't lower P4 netburst products much when AMD lead. Now that AMD is behind and their almost giving away their processors . I don't see ware AMD has a price fixing case . If intel is guilty so is AMD/

Hey, Dood, I'm 99% against Federal, State and Local subsidies (gotta protect the 1% chance in Hell that I'll ever get one - :D)

I don't know about Ireland but Intel racked up some doozies in New Mexico, Oregon and Arizona. And AMD got some biggies at Dresden in Germany.

I think it's a &^#!&*%! shame the way our gov'ts are forced to kiss corporate arse for a few hundred jobs. Just south of me Google got over $300 million for a new server farm and 200 jobs ...

That's some sheet ...

Actually, the agreement between NY and AMD occurred while George Pataki was governor.

http://cnse.albany.edu/downloa...es_PDF.pdf?AssetID=236

"In June (2006), Dr. Hector Ruiz, Chairman & CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), was welcomed by New York State Governor George E. Pataki at the anouncement of the new AMD facility in Malta, NY."

As for your "It's New York" comment please see the post by heyheybooboo direclty above this one.

IBM's fabs are in New York and Vermont. Other associated facilities, I don't know offhand.

I am fairly sure that the European Union does not govern the state of New York.

The EU has competitiveness rules that theoretically constrain government subsidies. The United States has much looser rules.

Another shakedown artist following in Spitzer's footsteps seeking publicity for his career.
Guiliani spent his time reducing crime and making the city prosper. Spitzer and Cuomo make me sick. Let's extort every big profitable company. Intel has a history of either prevailing or paying very small fines in these actions. When AMD had the technological advantage they couldn't manufacture enough to meet demand. Now they don't have the best products and they are losing. Their leadership is guilty of gross mismanagement and horrible execution and they are paying the price, or rather the stockholders and creditors are.:Disgust;

That really is part of the sad thing here...whether NY "wins" money from Intel or not this has nothing to do with getting any of that money into AMD's hands.

This is just a case where a state is acting like the ambulance chasing lawyer. They see enough smoke and they sue for fire damages, for themselves.

This won't help AMD unless it substantially changes whatever Intel was going to do in the future before the lawsuit was brought by NY.

Shakedown is about right.
