New York state government shut down possible?

I totally didn't realize this, although it's no secret they have a serious budget deficit. I was claiming UI benefits and seen the notice about a possible shut down next Tuesday. So obviously if it's shut down, no payments made.

Apparently the state republicans are excluded from the budget negotiations. Meanwhile, Paterson says to stop bickering, and he put forth $175 million in cuts... on a $9 BILLION deficit. Of course, emergency considerations include raising the cigarette tax again (already through the roof in NY) and other ways to raise revenue. How about cutting some fucking spending?

All this budget work being several months late. Just what exactly do these morons do in Albany? A lot of states have severe budget issues but NY just likes to fail extra hard. Hopefully I'll be out of here with a new job.

edit: Not that I mean $175 million in cuts is bad, as obviously it's a start, but he was making it sound like that's all they need to do to move ahead (and raise revenue for the rest).
