New York Skyscraper Escape Pods

Sounds like a waste of money.

First off, it's sort of like putting parachutes on commercial flights...sure, it might save lives, but they crash so seldom it simply isn't worth the enormous cost. Yeah, 9/11 was bad and all, but it was a fluke...skyscrapers are usually very, very safe.

Second, they lower the thing from the roof? If a building's on fire, you'll toast everyone when you pass by the floors engulfed in flames. And you'd better hope you don't cook the cables too much, or they might break. And if there's any sort of debris of pieces of rebar sticking out the side of the building, the car might bind up on them.

Basically, all the disadvantages of normal elevators, with no extra advantages.

maybe the pods should eject from the building and have parashutes on top of them so that they can land softly.

what should be done, is at the end of a building, still inside the walls though, should be an elevator system thats external from the rest of the building, with the ability for manual control in case of power failure. this system would be enclosed in a solid concrete structure and powered by the regular power, but with backup generators for during an emergency. redundancy is the key, but its not so over-the-top that it would be expensive.

Basically, this asshole just wants to get another get rich quick scam contract to leech off 9/11.

Scum.

Sounds completely pointless. The chances of another skyscraper collapsing are very small, and chances are that wont' work if it happens.
